Give your idea/opini for the following point :

1. What is media in teaching? How many teaching medya types do you know. Explain

Media in teaching are tools that are used to support the implementation of the teaching and learning process, from books to the use of electronic devices in class. Learning media serves to explain or visualize material that is difficult to understand if only using verbal speech.

Based on my understanding, the types of instructional media in teaching are as follows:

media, for example, such as books, modules, magazines, pictures, posters, maps, photographs,

magazines, flat boards, worksheets, newspaper clippings, handouts.

Media Audio, for example, radio broadcasts, cd / dvd, podcasts, songs, music, mp3 files, telephones, language labs.

Audio Visual media, for example, such as film, television, videoInteractive Multimedia Games, android based applications etc.

E-Learning for example, such as Udemy, Codeacademy, Ruangguru, Zenius, Google Classroom, etc.

Media Realia for example, such as plants, rocks, trees, currency etc.

2. Why teacher needs media in teaching?

Media in teaching very interesting because some reason, A teacher in the era of technology certainly really needs media in teaching to attract students' attention to concentrate and focus more on the content of the subject matter, create student comfort when studying or reading. For example pictorial text.Media Make it easier for students to understand and remember information,Accommodate / help students who are weak and slow to accept lessons that are presented verbally or text.

Media also helps make it easier for teachers to explain complex material, the learning methods used can be more varied, Efficiency in the use of time and energy, Can more easily focus students' attention on the material being studied, Organize the classroom atmosphere to be more lively and interactive, Make students more active in class and not easy to feel bored in class as well The achievement of the objectives of teaching and learning activities effectively.

3. What are the criteria of good teaching media.

Learning media is one of the important components in carrying out the learning process to maximize the use of media in learning as a cause of organizational anxiety in communication. Of course it must meet the aspects and elements that can make the learning process more effective. Therefore, in its use, of course, the media must have several criteria which must then be met in order to integrate with the learning process.

The criteria of good teaching media are:

1. In accordance with the objectives to be achieved

2. The characteristics of the media to be used are in accordance with the learning process

3. Able to support learning content and materials

4. Easy to obtain media

5. Ease of Access

6. Use does not take a long time

7. Suitability of Learning Media with Students' Thinking

8. In accordance with the situation and environmental conditions

9. According to the Ability of the Teachers

10. Effectiveness of Using Media in Learning

Of course, the effective use of media in the learning process will be able to maximize and optimize learning outcomes. Thus, it can be said that the media is able to meet the criteria as an appropriate learning media.

4. Do you think that the teaching media needs to be developed? why

I think the importance of media development in teaching. The development of instructional media is a series of processes or activities carried out to produce a learning media based on existing development theories. The media in question is learning media so that the development theory used is the theory of learning development. The reason why learning media must be developed is because media has many benefits for teachers and students in learning. Teaching cannot be separated from the media, therefore the importance of understanding and developing media in learning.

Subject.        : Cross Culture Understanding

Lecture.        :Dr. Herlina Wati M, Pd

1. In understanding foreign cultures, someone needs to understand well the cultures to avoid cultural conflicts. But, many people are failed to understand the values and customs of foreign cultures. According to your own idea, please explain what do you need to have to understand foreign cultures in order to avoid cultural conflicts.

In my according, the things that need to be understood to avoid conflict between cultures are understanding the values and norms of a culture, being tolerant, living with mutual respect

Effective intercultural communication is determined by how people understand the beliefs and cultural attitudes of others. Associating with people from other ethnic groups and religions is determined by the degree to which you show sensitivity and concern for the beliefs of others.

Communication patterns carried out by people of different cultures tend to have different characters and personalities in expressing this communication. Communication carried out by someone who has the same culture, will tend to have a greater similarity (homogeneity) than those of different cultures. Meanwhile, communication from different cultures will tend to disagree and arguably seem to have no big similarities, maybe there are similarities but small.

The way to deal with conflicts between cultures is to discuss problems politely, in order to show a genuine desire to solve the problems that occur. Speak directly with the people involved using polite and respectful language and increase a sense of tolerance, realizing that differences are not something to be bothered with.

2. How do you define your local cultural is different from foreign culture? Do youthink local and foreign cultures need to be integrated? Please provide your reasons

Best on my opinion Local culture is the original culture of a particular community group. The characteristics of local culture can be recognized in the form of social institutions owned by an ethnic group. While Foreign culture is a culture that comes from outside the area which is accepted and lived by a community who lives in its own area. The impact of the entry of foreign cultures causes cultural changes, cultural assimilation, modernization, cultural shocks, weakening of national cultural values. As a national identity, local culture must be maintained for its authenticity and ownership so that it cannot be recognized by other countries.

We, as a generation of local culture, of course have to instill a sense of love for the country so as not to erode local culture due to foreign cultural influences, therefore it is necessary to integrate local culture from generation to generation. To face the current swift flow of globalization to generations. is necessary to instill the values of nationalism. Cultivating the values of this nationalismIt is hoped that they will be able to form a generation that has a sense of love for their local culture so that it is not eroded by the swift currents of globalizationrecently. One of the ways that can be done to preserve local culture is by integrating the values of local wisdom in learning. In this integration, of course, must be adjusted accordinglylocal cultural values and norms.

3. What is stereotype and prejuice? Does it exist in your local culture? Give example?

Best on my view a stereotype is a positive or negative belief that is held against a certain social group. After the emergence of stereotypes, prejudice will emerge which is a negative attitude that cannot be justified towards members of the group.

The stereotype in my culture regarding lazy, lazy Malay culture is a self-image of ethnic Malay who views ethnic Malay as being included in the category of people who are lazy to work, meaning that here the Malay community is a society that has a very relaxed character at work. However, the prejudice is that most Malay people are like that, but not all.

MID TEST CROSS CULTURE UNDERSTANDING

MID TEST

CROSS-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING (CCU)

NAME: T. RENI WIDIA NINGSI

NIM: 1888203051

CLASS: 5.1

QUESTIONS :

1. Please answer the questions below briefly:

A. Give your own idea/opinions about:

a.  Culture

Based own my think about culture, Culture is a way of life that is developed and owned by a group of people, and passed down through generations. Culture consists of many complex elements, including religious and political systems, languages, customs, buildings, tools, clothing, and artwork.

Language, as well as culture, is an integral part of humans that many people tend to assume is genetically inherited. When one tries to communicate with people from different cultures, and adjust differences, it proves that culture is learned.

Culture is a holistic lifestyle. culture is also complex, abstract, and broad. Many aspects of the help culture determine communicative behavior. Elements of socio-cultural dissemination, and include many human social activities.

b. Interculture

Interculture is a common set of social norms, conventions, etc. Adopted by a group whose members are culturally diverse.

c. Cross culture

Best own my think Cross-cultural interactions occur when two different cultures meet at a meeting point. Cross-cultural is a term often used to draw a situation when a culture meets and interacts with other different cultures both can have a positive impact or vice versa to a person.

There are cultural differences because the culture is dynamic and always evolving therefore it takes more than one approach to understand across cultures.

Man grows and develops within his own cultural environment so that it forms and creates a way of thinking that is different from each other.

This way of thinking and acting is the result of cultural conditioning or cultural controlling through a long process of education and teaching given through generations by parents, teachers, and the community.

Understanding the culture of others is very important for us so that there is no culture shock that assumes that a particular person's culture is wrong according to us based on a culture that we understand (own culture), let's say a person who works in a keungan office or a hospital that has many people who work and come from different tribes or countries broadly cross-culturally includes an understanding of values , beliefs, attitudes, mindsets, customs, customs, languages and ways of communicating.

Understanding cross-culturally has several benefits divided into three, namely benefits for tourists, local people, and for tourists. For tourists to understand cross-cultural will make it easier to understand the general character of the local community.

Suppose we want to visit a country let's say Ireland by understanding across cultures we will not experience any misunderstanding between us visiting with the local people when talking or others.

For the local community In this case the local community not only learns how to behave in certain situations but is also able to explain why doing this, the basic values, beliefs, and assumptions that are fundamental to the attitude of those communities. The more interaction, the more knowledge develops, and the experience of cultural problems will decrease.

For tourists Many things can be excavated from cross-cultural understanding because cultural differences are not limited to food, language and dances but also related to human interaction including non-verbal behavior, beliefs, time orientation, attitudes, habits, traditions, how to dress body movements and other things.

d. Multiculture

My point of view Multiculturalism is both a response to the fact of cultural pluralism in modern democracies and a way of compensating cultural groups for past exclusion, discrimination, and oppression. Most modern democracies comprise members with diverse cultural viewpoints, practices, and contributions. Many minority cultural groups have experienced exclusion or the denigration of their contributions and identities in the past. Multiculturalism seeks the inclusion of the views and contributions of diverse members of society while maintaining respect for their differences and withholding the demand for their assimilation into the dominant culture

2. Give one example of cultural conflict and offer the solution for its adjustment!

 Sampit conflict

The unrest in sampit is just one of a series of riots that occurred by madurese who since the founding of Central Kalimantan have committed more than 13 major riots and many such riots resulted in casualties on the Dayak side.

The solution for its adjustment is :

1) Conflict That Must be in Management Towards Reconciliation

2) Changing the Religious Understanding System

3) Reduce The Appearance of Berhura-Hura in Religious Life.

 4) Dampen The Appetite for Distinction To Avoid Ethnic Conflict.

3. How do you define:

a. Mosaic

A mosaic is a pattern or image made of small regular or irregular pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic, held in place by plaster/mortar, and covering a surface. Mosaics are often used as floor and wall decoration, and were particularly popular in the Ancient Roman world.

Mosaic today includes not just murals and pavements, but also artwork, hobby crafts, and industrial and construction forms.

Mosaics have a long history, starting in Mesopotamia in the 3rd millennium BC. Pebble mosaics were made in Tiryns in Mycenean Greece; mosaics with patterns and pictures became widespread in classical times, both in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Early Christian basilicas from the 4th century onwards were decorated with wall and ceiling mosaics. Mosaic art flourished in the Byzantine Empire from the 6th to the 15th centuries; that tradition was adopted by the Norman Kingdom of Sicily in the 12th century, by the eastern-influenced Republic of Venice, and among the Rus in Ukraine. Mosaic fell out of fashion in the Renaissance, though artists like Raphael continued to practise the old technique. Roman and Byzantine influence led Jewish artists to decorate 5th and 6th century synagogues in the Middle East with floor mosaics.

b. Melting pot

The melting pot is a monocultural metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements "melting together" with a common culture; an alternative being a homogeneous society becoming more heterogeneous through the influx of foreign elements with different cultural backgrounds, possessing the potential to create disharmony within the previous culture. Historically, it is often used to describe the cultural integration of immigrants to the United States.

The melting-together metaphor was in use by the 1780s. The exact term "melting pot" came into general usage in the United States after it was used as a metaphor describing a fusion of nationalities, cultures and ethnicities in the 1908 play of the same name.

The desirability of assimilation and the melting pot model has been rejected by proponents of multiculturalism, who have suggested alternative metaphors to describe the current American society, such as a mosaic, salad bowl, or kaleidoscope, in which different cultures mix, but remain distinct in some aspects. The melting pot continues to be used as an assimilation model in vernacular and political discourse along with more inclusive models of assimilation in the academic debates on identity, adaptation and integration of immigrants into various political, social and economic spheres.

c. Stereotype

a stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. The type of expectation can vary; it can be, for example, an expectation about the group's personality, preferences, appearance or ability. Stereotypes are sometimes overgeneralized, inaccurate, and resistant to new information (and sometimes accurate).

While such generalizations about groups of people may be useful when making quick decisions, they may be erroneous when applied to particular individuals and are among the reasons for prejudice attitudes.

d. Prejudice

Prejudice is an affective feeling towards a person based on their perceived group membership. The word is often used to refer to a preconceived, usually unfavourable, evaluation of another person based on that person's political affiliation, sex, gender, beliefs, values, social class, age, disability, religion, sexuality, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, beauty, occupation, education, criminality, sport team affiliation or other personal characteristics.

Prejudice can also refer to unfounded or pigeonholed beliefs[3][4] and it may include "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence". Gordon Allport defined prejudice as a "feeling, favorable or unfavorable, toward a person or thing, prior to, or not based on, actual experience". Auestad (2015) defines prejudice as characterized by 'symbolic transfer', transfer of a value-laden meaning content onto a socially formed category and then on to individuals who are taken to belong to that category, resistance to change, and overgeneralization.

(Spin it: using vocabulary wheels to widen learners’ lexical range)

All in all, the vocabulary wheels will support your students in becoming more effective communicators, in accordance with the Cambridge Life Competencies Framework: Communication. They will learn to develop clear descriptions or narratives with a logical sequence of points. The wheel may also guide them when observing differences in communication styles. The same could be said for body language between individuals and across different cultures, enhancing mutual understanding.

(Types of board games for the ELT classroom)

While the board games in the above three categories can be fun and extremely useful for students, they don’t always promote meaningful interaction, which can lead to effective speaking and listening practice while utilizing the language they know and can build on.

5.    Advantages:

Ø  The information required will be more quickly and easily accessible for educational purposes.

Ø  Innovation in learning is growing in the presence of e-learning innovations that further facilitate the educational process.

Ø  Progress of ICT will also allow the development of virtual classroom or classroom-based teleconference that does not require the educator and learners are in one room.

Ø  System administration in an institution will be more easily and smoothly because of the application of ICT systems.

6.      How to use Analytics / Machine Learning to predict students' passing / failure rates of grades in Learning English Language.

7.      Learning English Language is important. There are many ways to increase and improve the English skills, with or without ICT, by online or offline. Those all are kinds of media. In the other word, media could influence our ELT.

1. What is Media?

Media is a means of communication channels. The word media comes from

Latin which is the plural of the word medium. In

literally, media means intermediaries, namely intermediaries between the sources of the message(a source) by receiving a message (a receiver). Some things are

including into the media are films, television, diagrams, print media

(printed material), computer, and so on. 1

Media is a tool that can assist in necessity

and activities, which can make it easier for whom

only take advantage of it.

More specifically, the notion of media in the teaching process is trendy

interpreted as physical, photographic, or electronic devices for

capture, process, and rearrange visual information or

verbal. 2 The existence of media is felt to be very helpful in the learning process

teach, this is because the teacher will be easy in activities

teaching and can increase student attention to activities

learn it.

According to the National Association of Peniikan (Natinal Education

Association / NEA) in the book Arief Sadiman, et al, the media are

of communication both printed and audiovisual as well the crockery. Media should not be manipulated, it can

seen, heard and read. The limitation is that of the media

is anything that can be used to channel

message from sender to receiver so as to stimulate

thoughts, feelings, concerns and interests and concerns of students

such that the learning process occurs.3 In learning activities, media can be defined as

something that can carry information and knowledge within

ongoing interaction between educators and students. 4 In learning activities, the media can be defined as

something that can be used as a means of channeling communication and

message. In teaching and learning activities, media is something

which is very good and useful, where as something can

be a communication link between teachers and students.

2.  Roles of Media

Initially, the media only functioned as an internal tool

teaching and learning activities, namely in the form of means that can provide

visual experiences to students in order to encourage motivation

learning and learning achievement clarify and simplify concepts

complex and abstract becomes simpler, more concrete as well easy to understand.13 Thus, it can function to

enhance absorption and reference to the material

learning and teaching media can be made more attractive.

Basyirudin Usman and Asnawir, explained the function of the media

teaching in the student learning process as follows: 14

a) Helps make learning easier for students and helps

make teaching easier for teachers.

b) Provide a more real experience (which abstract can be

concrete).

c) Attract students more attention (the course of the lesson is not

boring).

d) All of the student's senses can be activated, the weakness of one of the senses can be

balanced by the power of the other senses.

e) More attention and interest in learning.

f) Can generate a world of theory with reality.

Suwana, et al, argue that the benefits of learning media

is:

1) The delivery of learning materials can be uniform.

2) The learning process becomes more interesting

3) The learning process becomes more interactive

4) The amount of teaching and learning time can be reduced.

5) The quality of learning can be improved

 6) The learning process can occur anywhere and anytime.

7) A positive attitude towards the learning process can be improved.

8) The role of the teacher can change to a more positive and productive direction.

Thus, the media is very helpful for teachers

convey learning to achieve the desired goals

achieved to the maximum

3.  Methods

Quite a few types and forms of media are known

today, from simple to high-tech, from

which is easy and already exists naturally to the medium

must be designed by the teacher himself.

Judging from its type, the media is divided into auditive media,

visual, and audiovisual. Auditive media is media only

rely on voice capabilities alone, such as radio, cassete recorder, vinyl record. This visual media is displaying an image or

symbols that move like a film strip (film series), photo images

or paintings, prints. There are also visuals that display images or

symbols that move like mute, cartoon movies. Meanwhile, the media

Audio visual is a medium that has sound and element characteristics

picture. This type of meia has a better ability because

includes both the first and the second media types.

Audio-visual media consists of silent visual audiences, namely media

which displays sound and still images like a sound-frame movie

(sound slides), sound sequencing films. 5 Motion audio, namely media

can display sound unsu and moving images like movies

sound and video cassette.

In terms of the situation, audio-visual media is divided into

pure visual audiences, namely sound and image elements derived from

a source such as a film audio-cassette. visual audiences are not

pure i.e. sound and picture elements from different sources,

for example a sound frame film whose image elements come from

slide projector and sound elements sourced from recorder type. 6

Judging from its coverage, the media is divided into 2 (two), namely

first, media with broad and simultaneous folding. Use

This media is not limited by space and space and can reach

a large number of students at the same time. Second, the media

with limited coverage by space and space. This medium is deep

its use requires a special space and place such as

films, sound slides, film sequences, which must use the place

closed and dark.

According to Pupuh Fathurrohman and Sobry Sutikno, “if seen

media is divided into the first,

simple media, namely media with easy basic ingredients

obtained cheaply, how to make it easy, and

its use is not difficult. Second, complex media, namely media

with materials that are hard to come by, the tools are not cheap and made

relatively expensive price "

From the explanation described, conclusions can be drawn, namely

the kinds of media are divided into 3 kinds, while being seen

from coverage, the media is divided into 2 (two). On audio media

visuals are divided into 2 types, namely pure visual and audio media

Impure visual audiences. And in the division of types, audio meia

The visuals are better than both types of media.

In this media it is more complete, which can be seen and heard,

so that this type of media is expected to be more precise with

the process of teaching and learning activities.

4. What are technologies for learning?

Educational media and tools can be used to:

Task structuring support: help with how to perform tasks (procedures and processes),

Access to knowledge base (helps users find the information needed)

Alternative forms of knowledge representation (some representations of knowledge, for example video, audio, text, images, data)

Technologies currently in use: digital cameras, video cameras, document cameras, electronic media, and LCD projectors. The combination of these techniques includes blogs, collaborative software, ePortfolios, and virtual classrooms. The next learning technology media are audio and video. Audio and Video learning methods can be exemplified as when we stream lesson material from learning video sites. Where there we will get an explanation of the material online, or also offline using a CD / DVD cassette.

Video can also use webcam and webcasting features which have made it possible to create virtual classrooms and virtual learning environments. The next learning technology media is through computers, tablets and cellphones. Collaborative learning is a group-based learning approach in which students work together and interact with each other.

Make a Paraphrasing Data from the Text Original

Topic : Hoax

Title : 100% hoax is negative.

Thesis Statement : Beware of Hoax News Now it's easy to spread on social media

Body 1 : Waste of Time and Money
Body 2 : Transfer of Issues
Body 3 : Triggers Public Panic

The Original data

100% Hoax is Negative
Liputan6.com, Jakarta.Surfing in cyberspace is now a very common thing for most people. According to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), hoaxes or hoaxes are false news or news that has no source. Hoax is information that is actually not true, but is made as if it were true. the negative impact arising from the first hoax is only a waste of time and money, the second is the transfer of issues and can cause public panic.

The first waste of Time and Money, According to calculations on the cmsconnect.com site, reading hoax news can cause no small amount of harm to the individual or office where you work. This happens thanks to decreased productivity due to the surprising effect of hoax news. For companies, the usual losses incurred at a minimum of Rp 10 million per year. While individuals can reach Rp 200 thousand per year. All this can happen if each worker spends 10 seconds per day reading e-mails or hoax messages.

The second is transfer of Issues, In cyberspace, especially for cyber criminals, hoaxes can be used to smooth out their illegal actions. Cyber criminals are known to often spread hoaxes about system vulnerabilities in an internet service, such as Google Gmail. Well, in the hoax message earlier, hackers could have included certain links that are suggested to be clicked to avoid the Gmail system's vulnerability. So we as social media users must be smart in choosing the right news because the impact of this hoax is very negative starting from wasting time and money, continues to be a diversion of issues and can trigger public panic.
